We finally reopened our doors to students on Monday 14th September!

Welcoming students back!

It was with a heavy heart that I were forced to shut our doors in March this year, and since then we have all been making the best of it in our kitchens, living rooms, gardens and even a few parks!  The Covid pandemic was an unexpected and unwelcome twist to 2020 and for many of us the past few months have been tough to say the least!

However despite all the hardships, isolation and uncertainty the majority of Brighton Ballet School Students have soldiered on, with admirable optimism and good cheer!

I would like to take a moment to pay tribute to all those dancers out there who have met these challenges with such good spirit, keeping us all sane and busy during such unusual times! I thank you for your support, encouragement, humour and enthusiasm.  It meant the world to me, and was a constant reminder of how lucky we are at Brighton Ballet School to have such a warm and welcoming community of like minded people.

So it was with great anticipation, excitement  and relief that I could re opened our classes in the studio on Monday 14th September!

I spent 3 intense weeks planning and meeting with staff, working on our Risk Assessment, putting every conceivable measure in place to ensure our return is as Covid free as possible.  Working together with our fantastic faculty of teachers and BHASVIC staff, we have set in place procedures that puts the safety of our students, their families and our staff at the centre of everything we do.

And what better way than to start back with my pre-vocational group of Inter-foundation teenagers who were raring to go!  It filled me with joy to see them back together, and to welcome some new students to this group too! Despite a few teething troubles with the live streaming of classes, everything went remarkably smoothly!

We finished up our first week with a whole day of dancing welcoming brand new students as young as 2.5 and our new Acrobatic Arts Teacher, Leonie who definitely won over the students with her infectious smile and energy and VERY bright pink leggings!!

For me, the hardest part was resisting the urge to run up to everyone and hug them hello!  It is a new and strange world we find ourselves in but all the complications and restrictions are worth every minute when I see happy students enjoying the freedom and joy of dancing together again!
